Pomor Ethnos
Pomori (Pomors) is a distinctive original name (ethnonym) of a native ethnic community of the European North of Russia (Pomorjye). Ethnonym Pomorjye was formed not later than the 12th century on South-Western (Pomor) coast of the White Sea. During the 14th - 16th century this term extended to the South and East from a place of its origin.

Vigorous bodybuild and body balance of Pomors are mentioned "in materials for precise discription of the Arkhangelsk Province". According to authors' observations "in most cases they have blond-brown hair, firm step, wide prominent chest, well-developed muscular hands and legs".

"Pomor is a determined man, a strong tall vigorous constitution fisherman..."

Ethnogenesis of Pomors was conditioned by merging of cultures of Protopomor predominantly Ugro-Finish (Chud) tribes of Belomorjye and the first ancient Russian colonists who extensively inhabited territories of Zavolochjye.

"The sea is our field" Pomors said. Using homemade vessels locals went fishing and hunting sea animals to Murman, Novaya Zhemlya. They reached shores of Norway. They stopped on islands in the White Sea, the Barents Sea and the Karskoye Sea. This way Pomors played a special role in exploring Northern sea routes and development of shipbuilding. Outstanding Russian admiral Litkye called them "eternal seamen".

In the 12th - 15th century Pomorjye was a colony of Vyelikiy Novgorod. In the 15th - 17th century Pomorjye was a large administrative and economic region on shores of the White Sea, the Onyezhskoye Lake and on banks of the Onyega River, the Northern Dvina River, the myezyen River, the Pinyega River, the Pechora River, the Kama River and the Vyatka River (reaching the Ural). By the beginning of the 16th century Pomorjye joined Moscow. In the 17th century population of 22 districts of Pomorjye mostly consisted of free peasants who depended not on private owners but on a state.

It's imposible to call Pomor house a log hut. It is a real house and in most cases it is two-storeyed house.

In the 19th century they also called Pomorjye the Russian North, the European North of Russia, etc. Later meaning of a term Pomorjye broadened. Ethnonym Pomorjey was ousted by a featureless term Syevyeryanye (Northerners). However, in spite of extensive processes of assimilation of Pomors in the Great Russian ethnos (ethnonym the Great Russians was formed in the 19th century) Pomors conserved its own ethnic (national) self-consciousness and it obtains nowadays. This fact can be proved by data of Russian population census 2002. Pomors marked their ethnic belonging in a field Nationality (register code of census # 208 "Nationality - Pomor"). Features of Pomor ethnic community are ethnic (national) self-consciousness and original name (ethnonym) Pomori, coherency of historical territory (Pomorjye), coherence of Pomorjye's culture, coherency of a language (Pomor Govurya), ethnic (national) character, ethnic religious ideology (pomor Ancient Russian Orthodoc Church), coherency of traditional economics and other factors.
