The exposition of the museum shows all the stages of making boats, from picking the wood to getting the boat, which can be used for sailing on water. The visitors can try a boat stage by stage, with the help of the instruments such as adze, axe and drawknife and to understand what a hard labor it is.
For decades the secrets of boat-makers were passed by word of mouth from father to son, without any drawings an calculations. It is very difficult to find a boat-maker who is able to make a boat of good quality because this craft wasn’t wide-spread. It becomes even more difficult because during the modern materials and technology time there are practically no boat-makers of younger generation and the elderly ones, unfortunately, take their experience and skills with them: their art is dying with them.
This type of boats is unjustly forgotten. Behind its seeming simplicity and “incongruity” there are hidden construction rationality and excellent boat’s performance. Available materials and minimum set of required instruments allow to make such a boat right on the coast, far from localities, in hunting and fishing places.
Only 3-5 sm of water above sludge are enough to get to the fantastic and beautiful places where no man has never set foot and where no other vessel can get. The process of learning to rule this ancient boat, which develops agility and self-awareness, is very interesting and entertaining.
